In 2001, Vassar joined the world in mourning the events of September 11. Phone banks, large screen televisions, and counseling services were made available to help the community cope with the immediate confusion and worry. In the following days and weeks, the college came together for quiet observance, group discussions and educational forums, providing a safe place to grieve as well as understand what had happened and how best to move forward.
