We, the People of the United States, in Order to Form a More Perfect Union, Establish Justice, Insure Domestic Tranquility, Provide for the Common Defence, Promote the General Welfare, and Secure the Blessings of Liberty to Ourselves and our Posterity, Do Ordain and Establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
Philadelphia: Printed by Dunlap and Claypoole,1787.

Convention delegates asked Governor Morris of Pennsylvania to put together a final draft of the Constitution, and he completed the task in September 1787. The rare document exhibited here was printed before the official edition, and represents the first issue of the Constitution as agreed. It includes the resolution, a letter from George Washington transmitting the Constitution to Congress, and a resolution of the Congress to transmit these documents to the state legislatures.
